Physical health - Visible and Invisible
Today physical health is much more visible, in poorer countries you see many youth who are affected by malnutrition. You see a child who is 16 who has the physical growth and development of a 12 year old child. If you do not get the right nutrition at the right formative period in your life your physical growth is stunted and not matter how much you eat after you an adult its difficult to compensate. And yet in many ways Health is invisible and become visible when you lose it. Imagine sitting in a plane with people from all parts of the country/world of all ages. Can you really tell who is healthy and who is not? Sure, you can tell who looks fit in the classic textbook definition of fit, but true health is vitality. And Health becomes often visible when you lose it: From simple short term losses of health when you catch a common cold, down with fever, to long term recurring losses of health like blood pressure, diabetes, to debilitating losses of health like cancer. In a simple equation if you are physically healthy, your body can perform its day to day tasks easier and if you lose your health, you find it hard to go about your day. Ensuring that your body stays healthy requires a daily lifestyle. Click below to learn more. Mental Health
Why psychologists put mental and emotional health all together, I like to differentiate. Mental health or the strength of the mind I see as the one's mental computing strength. Your mind's sharpness, its ability to grasp concepts and understand, process and apply information. It is beneficial to be have a growth mindset as opposed to a fixed mindset. To be a lifelong learner and to be acquiring knowledge that can help you understand the world around you and function better as a human. Mental health is also the ability to focus your mind. The brain can be treated as a muscle as in, it can be developed and can increase in strength and stamina. While some people can focus on learning and on solving a problem for hours with productive results others get distracted after a few minutes.. Why is that? Can you develop your mental strength.. Absolutely yes. Click below to learn more.. |
